Therapy/Class: Vitamin Syrup for Good Eye Health & Vision

Mechanism of Action:

Vitamin D: Its receptors are present in the cells of the eye’s surface, including the cornea and conjunctiva. Adequate levels of vitamin D may help maintain the health of these tissues. It also supports Optic Nerve Function.

Vitamin E: It protects cells from damage caused by free radicals, unstable molecules that can harm cellular structures, including those in the eyes. By neutralizing free radicals, vitamin E helps prevent oxidative stress. Supports retinal health by protecting retinal cells from oxidative stress and promoting optimal functioning.

Vitamin C: It is necessary for the synthesis of collagen, a structural protein that provides strength and structure to the various tissues of the eye, including the cornea, sclera, and blood vessels. Adequate vitamin C intake is crucial during childhood to support the growth and development of these ocular structures. It also plays a role in maintaining the health and function of the retina by protecting it from oxidative damage and supporting the production of neurotransmitters necessary for transmitting visual signals to the brain.

Zinc: It is a component of various enzymes and proteins involved in retinal function. It plays a crucial role in the metabolism of retinol (vitamin A), which is necessary for the synthesis of rhodopsin, a pigment found in the retina’s rod cells. Rhodopsin is essential for low-light vision, and adequate zinc levels support its production and function, contributing to overall retinal health.

Lutein & Zeaxanthin: Lutein and zeaxanthin are two types of carotenoids known as macular pigments, which are naturally found in high concentrations in the macula of the eye. They act as natural filters for blue light, a high-energy wavelength of light that can be harmful to the retina. By absorbing excess blue light, lutein and zeaxanthin help protect the retina from oxidative damage, reducing the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other retinal conditions. The density of lutein and zeaxanthin in the macula is associated with better visual function and lower risk of AMD later in life. Ensuring sufficient intake of these carotenoids during childhood helps maintain macular pigment density, providing long-term protection against age-related vision loss.
