Therapy/Class: Antihistamine/First-generation H1 receptor antagonist
Mechanism of Action:
Antidopaminergic Effect: Promethazine acts as a direct antagonist at the mesolimbic dopamine receptors in the brain, which helps in reducing nausea and vomiting.
Antihistamine Effect: Promethazine exhibits its antihistamine properties as an H₁-receptor blocker, reducing allergic responses and providing relief from symptoms like itching and rashes.
Indications:
- Treatment of Perennial & Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis
- Allergic Conjunctivitis
- Motion Sickness
- Nausea & Vomiting Post-Surgery
Dosage & Administration:
More than 2 Years Age: 0.25-1mg/kg every 4-6 Hrs as & when required. Maximum Dose:25mg/day
