Therapy/Class: Antiallergic / Second Generation Anti-histamines plus Leukotriene Receptor Antagonists (LTRAs)
Mechanism of Action:
Fexofenadine: It is an antihistamine with selective peripheral H1 -receptor antagonist activity. Both enantiomers of fexofenadine hydrochloride displayed approximately equipotent anti-histaminic effects. Fexofenadine inhibits histamine release from peritoneal mast cells. No sedative or other central nervous system effects were observed.
Montelukast: It binds & acts as Antagonists to cysteinyl leukotriene (CysLT) receptor found in the human airway including airway smooth muscle cells and airway macrophages. CysLTs have been correlated with the pathophysiology of asthma and allergic rhinitis.
Indications:
- Perennial Allergies & Seasonal Allergies, Including Allergic Rhinitis
- Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria
- Acute Asthmatic Attack
- Exercise-Induced Bronchospasm Prophylaxis
