Spectrum of Coverage: Aerobic gram-negative microorganisms
- Enterobacter aerogenes
- Escherichia coli
- Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Mechanism of Action:
Colistin exhibits bactericidal activity & it is a surface-active agent which penetrates into and disrupts the bacterial cell membrane. This causes the contents of the bacterial cell to leak out which subsequently leads to bacterial killing.
Indications:
- Bacterial Infections of The Gut (Stomach & Intestines)
- Selective Decontamination of The Digestive Tract in ICU
Dosage & Administration: 2.5 to 5mg/kg/day in 2-4 divided doses
